Amazon’s Fulfillment Network Expansion in India: Investing on Logistics for Growth

Amazon’s Fulfillment Network Expansion in India: Accelerating Logistics for Growth

Adding New Fulfillment Centers Rapidly.

In June 2025, Amazon India has announced the launch of five new fulfillment centers to be open - locations are in Indore, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Rajpura, and Delhi-NCR region. These facilities offer a combined storage capacity of 1.8 million cubic feet (roughly the size of 10 football grounds), expediting delivery times and enhancing buyer-seller connectivity ahead of Prime Day.

Amazon is investing approximately ₹2,000 crore ($233 million) into operations infrastructure in India for 2025. The funds will be channeled into building and upgrading fulfillment centers, implementing advanced technology, and improving delivery safety and processing capacity, and beat the competitions going on in India as amazon is facing tough competitions with new quick commerce players like blinkit, zepto, swiggy instamart and now flipkart minutes. To tackle this amazon has taken a bold steps in investment.
Amzon will not stop there they are also coming into new cities for fulfilment operation centers, including Hooghly, Tiruvallur, Krishnagiri, Visakhapatnam, and Hubballi. Sortation centers were added in Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj.

Amazon continues to invest for the long haul. Recently, the company signed a 20-year lease for a substantial 559,000 sq ft warehousing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal, worth approximately ₹430 crore in rent.
The company is also laying groundwork for future expansion through a planned 600,000 sq ft built-to-suit logistics facility in Kolkata’s Oswal Logistics Park, with operations expected to begin by 2027–28.

My Final Thoughts

Amazon’s scaling of its fulfillment network reflects a holistic strategy: meet surging seasonal demand, cement logistical strength, and lead market share growth. Investments like the ₹2,000 crore expansion initiative, long-term leases, and multi-city coverage position Amazon strongly against competitors like Flipkart and local players.

Whether you're an investor, seller, or logistics professional—Amazon's bold infrastructure expansion in 2025 is a powerful signal of the future of e-commerce logistics in India.
